Nadia De Leon Bio
My name is Nadia De León; I have had the pleasure to work for the Hidalgo County Head Start Program in different capacities for the last 19 years. I can proudly say that a teacher position in a Head Start classroom is what marked the beginning of my career in the field of Early Childhood. The experiences and the joyful time I spent in our pre-k classroom served as a motivation for me to pursue a higher education degree. Since then and until now, Irecognize the importance of early childhood intervention and the great impact a strong educational foundation makes in the life of a child. I was truly motivated by the children and families I was serving during the years I spent as a classroom teacher, and although it was a challenging time, I committed myself to earn a higher education degree to expand my path in early childhood and have more opportunities to make a greater and more intentional impact in my community.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas Pan-American, I was given the opportunity to work as Staff Development Coordinator. The time I spent working in the Staff Development Department inspired me to continue with my education with a goal in mind, to become part of the Education Department. As I was attending graduate school, I spent a lot of my time learning from department directors and gaining experience from other
departments’ administrators to enrich my knowledge within this organization. After a few years of working as Staff Development Coordinator, the opportunity came up and I became part of the Education team, as the department coordinator. Working in the Education Department has been my goal since the beginning of my career in the program. After years of hard work and dedication, attending graduate school and consequently, graduating with
a master’s degree, I was promoted to Education Area Director. I have been proudly serving in the capacity of Education Area Director for the Hidalgo County Head Start for nine years and I remained as inspired and as motivated to make an impact as I was 19 years ago, on my first day of work in a Head Start classroom.
